How to Match Kitchen Cabinets & Countertops – 10 Tips & Tricks

March 3, 2019Stone TipsM T

If you are looking to renovate the kitchen, but don’t have the exact idea in mind, that can be a very time-consuming task. We have decided to help you with that and bring you the 10 tips and tricks on how to match your kitchen cabinets and countertops.

1. Use colour wheel

Consider using a colour wheel to determine which colours complement each other. The opposite sides of the wheel are contrasting colours, while the siding colours are complementing.

2. Decide which way you want to go

You don’t have to use just the colours that complement each other. You can use contrasting colours also and get interesting compositions.

3. Print the colours that you like

Print all the colours that you like, find a kitchen drawing (could be yours, could be any other kitchen) and start cutting the paper so that it fits the kitchen elements on the paper. You can do this with how many colours you like and it is a nice way to see how colours go with each other.

4. Decide on the colours

It is best to use three or fewer colours- one for the cabinets, one for the countertops and one for details. You can also use fewer, or even choose just one colour.

5. Start browsing for the colours

Once you have decided which colour you would like, start looking for them in quartz, marble’s or granite’s range. You’ll note that there are many colours like that, but they are all different by the veining, granulation…You can also print a few of them and start combining them with the cabinets.

6. Consider the style

Do you like traditional style kitchens or contemporary ones? That can help you a lot when choosing the colours. Colours with rich patterning are more suitable for traditional style, while colours with fewer details are suitable for contemporary style kitchens.

7. Consider the overall appeal

Do you prefer a well-balanced or contrasted composition? For well-balanced compositions choose similar colours of your cabinets and countertops and for contrasted choose the opposite colours on the colour wheel.

8. Consider what you already have

If all these steps haven’t helped you then consider what you already have in your home. The colours that appear the most are probably the safest choice.

9. Consider the budget

Once you have decided on the colour and material, give us a call. We will give you a free quote, all you need to do is to provide us with the dimensions of your kitchen. This way, you can know from the start whether you can afford that particular colour that you like.
