Composite Kitchen Worktops – 8 Things You Should Know

February 10, 2020Stone Tipsadmin

Composite worktops are the ones that are made of more than one material. They are usually a combination of 3-4 materials. One of the most popular composite materials for kitchen worktops is engineered quartz, a composition of three materials. All materials have a unique role in the final product and are making a high-quality product.

1. They are manufactured

Composite materials are manufactured as a combination of natural quartz, resins and pigments. Natural quartz is giving the worktops durability, resins are giving it stain resistant quality, while pigments are there to change colour.

2. Non-porous

Non-porous surface is one that doesn’t absorb water and liquids. Unlike natural stones, that have microscopic pores, composites are completely non-porous, resulting in a highly stain-resistant surface.

3. Stain-resistant

Quartz will not get stained even with wine or coffee. Even if you let the spill sit for some time, you will still be able to remove it with just soap and water. This material is an excellent choice for kitchen worktops because of this characteristic, but also many others.

4. Durable

Natural quartz is ranking number 7 on the Mohs scale of hardest minerals. This means that quartz is very durable and it will not break under high impact of force.

5. Resistant to scratching

A very hard material like this one is also highly resistant to scratching. You can even cut directly on your worktops and they will not get scratched. Just beware that you can dull your knives faster by doing so.

6. Available in various colours

During the manufacturing process, the pigments can be also added just to change the colour, but also add patterns. The most common patterns are veined and granulated, but there are also completely solid colours. In its colour palette, you will be able to find not only the classic neutral colours but also bright and bold ones. Its colour palette is very wide and there is something for everyone.

7. Easy to maintain

Engineered quartz has a sleek and smooth surface that makes the cleaning effortless. All you will need is a soft cloth, water and soap. Just make soapsuds and wipe your worktops with a cloth. In addition to that, quartz doesn’t need sealing, unlike natural stones.

8. Variety of brands

At Victoria Marble, you will have the ability to shop from several different brands and find the one that fits your budget the best. You will have the ability to choose from renowned brands like, Silestone, Caesarstone or newer ones like Classic Quartz Stone. The options are numerous and you will have no hard times finding the perfect one.

Composite kitchen worktops are a great substitution to natural stones, as they are surpassing their disadvantages. Without resins, quartz would be porous and less resistant to staining, while as a composite material it is one of the best in those segments.
