5 Reasons Why Granite is so Popular for Kitchen Worktops

January 20, 2020Stone Tipsadmin

Granite Stone Worktops London UKGranite has been for decades the most popular material for kitchen worktops. Although there have been many materials in recent years that have attempted to take its throne, granite is still one of the top materials for kitchens. Granite has many great attributes which are the reason why it is still so popular. Continue reading and find out the top 5 reasons why granite is one of the best choices for your bespoke kitchen worktops.

1. Heat resistant

Granite is the best material at resisting high temperatures, which is of essential importance when it comes to kitchen worktops. You will not have to worry if you have to postpone a hot pan on it that it will get burned or cracked. Many users don’t have the habit of using mats and trivets and granite is the first choice for them because of its resistance to heat.

2. Durability

Granite is a hard stone that will not crack or break under a high impact of force. Even its edges are more durable compared to other materials and they don’t tend to chip that easily. Just beware that if you drop a really heavy object on the edge, it can chip.

3. Scratch-resistant

Granite has densely packed molecule structure which is hard to break. Cutting directly on your worktops will not be an issue because granite will not get scratched. Granite is the perfect solution for busy kitchens where you just don’t have the time to look for a cutting board. Just beware that you can dull your knives by cutting directly on your worktops.

4. Resistance to staining

Granite is not a 100% stain-resistant material, as some engineered materials are, but it is close to that. Yet again, granite is 100% natural product without any synthetic materials added. Granite will not get stained by most liquids, although you should be more careful with wine and coffee. These liquids tend to stain the most and you should remove them as soon as possible. If you make sure to do so, your worktops will not get stained.
If you still have worries that your granite worktops might stain, you should choose a darker colour. Darkly toned granite is denser than the lighter toned ones and it is therefore more resistant to staining.

5. Easy to maintain

The cleaning of granite is very easy; all you will need are soap, soft cloth and warm water. Just make some soapy water and wipe your worktops. Then rinse off the residue with a damped cloth. You can let your worktops dry by themselves or wipe them with a dry cloth.
However, granite should be sealed a few times a year, depending on the colour. The sealant will make a waterproof barrier and your worktops will hence be more resistant to staining.
